To learn something requires repetition. Doesn’t matter if the lesson is correct, only that the lesson is repeated. The trick is wanting to repeat the task, that’s why physical fitness eludes so many of us. The trick is to make the task enjoyable. If learning a new language or working out was as enjoyable as masterbation humanity would find itself making up languages just to keep itself occupied and home gyms more common than televisions.
Video games provide a base for expanding on that concept. Imagine students of all ages looking forward to getting home and honing their skills after a lecture.
The central motivation behind this perspective is that the rote memorization has little value if the memory of what has been studied cannot be hooked into experiences worth holding onto; memories of excitement and happiness. Subjects such as musical theory, anatomy, chemistry, physics do not occur naturally or obviously in nature because they are human constructs and so the application of such subjects is the only thing to allow them to remain in the minds of their students. Since ways to apply such knowledge in a practical sense is limited the knowledge will not remain.
If we are ever to grow as a culture we must become smarter. No one can force someone to learn and so we must figure a way to have people look forward to learning, to improving. I think making eduction fun will be a good start. After all, they are the ones who will inherit it all.
